Have you ever seen an individual that goes out of their way to avoid germs? They are the ones who carry antibacterial wipes everywhere they go. They wipe door handles, shopping carts and anything else they believe may carry germs. What these people don’t understand is that by eliminating contact with germs they are potentially lowering their natural immune systems and may wind up catching diseases anyway. Germs have been given a bad rap when, in fact, they can save your life. It is really hard for a lot of people to believe that germs can actually be a good thing. We are really used to them being something that needs to be eradicated at all costs.
Clean and germ free, however, could be the death of all of us. Those who are looking for a sterile environment and one that contains no germs are not going to be as healthy as those individuals who are exposed to a large variety of germs and that is because your immune system uses each exposure to germs to build itself up and learn how to fight illness and disease.
Each individual exposure to germs makes the body react more quickly when it is being attacked by a foreign body. Vaccinations will help fight off some of the more common diseases but it doesn’t help the body repair itself. There are some people who believe the more germs you come in contact with the easier it is fight off infections any illnesses. Some mothers actually bring their children to homes of sick children so there kids can get the chicken pox or other childhood diseases.
Natural immunity is amazing and well surpasses medical immunity very simply because medical immunity can only address those illnesses and diseases that have been discovered and examined by the medical profession but when it comes to something new your body’s immunity will take much less time to assess the threat and begin to address the problems. While medicine can help with some things it can’t solve everything in the same way that a developed and healthy immune system can.
There is enough medical evidence to support the theory that having germs come in contact with your body will make your immune system stronger. The need to build up one’s natural immunity cannot be denied. Most physicians are trying to reduce the amount of antibiotics being prescribed to patients so they can build up the natural immunity to whatever bacteria they have incurred. Perhaps, the next time you reach for your antibacterial wipe, you’ll think about it and decide germs aren’t so bad after all.
